BE AN ORIGINAL

Google Image Search is great, but your work will be stronger if you start from scratch. Incorporate your own photos and drawing whenever you can. Not only will they highlight more of your design skills, but you won't have to deal with copyright issues down the road. Try scanning old paper, shooting photos of cool backgrounds and using a tablet to incorporate your own handwriting. Digitize as you go. Draw with a Wacom tablet or create your own stock photos with a DSLR.
